Kazakhstan's gas industry has demonstrated significant growth, with production volumes reaching a record high last year. According to data presented at an expanded board meeting of the Ministry of Energy, the country extracted 68.2 billion cubic meters of gas in 2025, surpassing the planned target by 8.6%.

The strengthening of the resource base was marked by a key development: the commissioning of the Barkhannaya field in the Zhambyl region, which holds reserves estimated at 1.5 billion cubic meters. Furthermore, a comprehensive plan for the sector's development through 2029 has been approved, outlining a strategic roadmap for future expansion.

Infrastructure development has also progressed rapidly. The Taldykorgan–Usharal main gas pipeline was completed ahead of schedule in 2025, enhancing the national gas transportation network. The level of national gasification has now reached 64.2%, providing access to this energy source for approximately 13.1 million people.

Significant financial resources are being allocated to continue this momentum. For 2026 alone, 27.6 billion tenge has been earmarked for developing gas infrastructure, funding around 40 projects. A top priority is completing the first stage of the second line of the strategic Beineu–Bozoy–Shymkent gas pipeline.

A major focus is on expanding domestic gas processing capacity to add value and ensure stable supply. Plans are underway to launch a new Gas Processing Plant (GPP) at Kashagan with a capacity of 1 billion cubic meters per year by December 2026.

Concurrently, state expert review is expected for another GPP project in Zhanaozen with a planned capacity of 0.9 billion cubic meters annually. Additionally, a feasibility study is being developed for yet another large-scale GPP at Kashagan designed to process up to 2.5 billion cubic meters per year.

The implementation of these initiatives is designed to maintain high production rates and provide industry and households with a reliable long-term resource base.
