Kazakhstan's electricity generation reached 123.1 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in 2025, exceeding the planned target by 4.4%. This achievement underscores the country's progress in strengthening its energy security.

Over the past six years, the nation's power output has shown consistent growth, rising from 106 billion kWh to the current level of 123.1 billion kWh. This represents a significant 16% increase, reflecting systematic development within the energy sector and successful implementation of projects to modernize existing infrastructure and commission new facilities.

The positive results for 2025 were bolstered by the commissioning of new traditional generation projects with a combined capacity of 166 megawatts (MW). These included facilities at the Tekeli Energy Complex and the Topar Thermal Power Plant (GRES).

Looking ahead to 2026, authorities plan to further increase electricity production to approximately 126.5 billion kWh. The primary driver for this growth will be the introduction of new generating capacities totaling around 2,400 MW.

Key projects slated for completion this year include launching a combined-cycle gas turbine unit (CCGT) in Kyzylorda with a capacity of 240 MW and another in Turkistan with a massive 1,000 MW capacity. Furthermore, modernization efforts at Almaty's TPP-2 and TPP-3 are expected to add over 1,100 MW in total capacity. Expansions are also planned for power plants in Atyrau and Tekeli.
