The construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan, which will combine both large and small-capacity reactors, has the potential to become a "global showcase" for the industry. This assessment was made by Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the Russian state corporation Rosatom.

Likhachev emphasized that the project holds global significance, partly due to its unique combination of technologies. He pointed out that the contract for building a small nuclear power station with a capacity of about 50 megawatts is the world's first export agreement of its kind.

The Rosatom head expressed confidence that the Uzbek site, which will integrate power units of different capacities, can demonstrate new approaches and open up prospects for further export solutions in nuclear energy.

In 2024, Rosatom and Uzbekistan's Agency for Atomic Energy under the Cabinet of Ministers signed this pioneering export contract for constructing a low-capacity nuclear station based on a Russian design.

A supplementary agreement concluded in 2025 outlines plans to build two high-capacity power units based on Generation 3+ VVER-1000 reactors, along with two small power units equipped with RITM-200N reactors, each with a capacity of 55 megawatts.
