At the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, North Macedonia's President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova voiced strong support for the position articulated by Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the critical need to develop preventive diplomacy within the United Nations framework to avert conflicts.
Siljanovska-Davkova noted that both the United Nations and the European Union were founded as projects for peace. "Both have, in a sense, failed when confronted with war. Why? Because there was no preventive diplomacy," she stated during a panel session. "Mr. Tokayev mentioned both preventive and proactive diplomacy. This is what we are sorely lacking—a rational model for political decision-making."
During his address at the forum, President Tokayev emphasized the vital role of preventive measures in conflict prevention. "This issue has been discussed for many years, at least for the last 30 years. But nothing happens apart from very beautiful speeches, declarations, and so on," he remarked. "I believe we need to focus on measures to forecast regional or global conflicts; this is preventive diplomacy. Simultaneously, we must combine efforts to support effective multilateral diplomacy."
President Tokayev also shared his perspective on key trends and challenges facing the global community, shaping the international agenda for the near future.
