Kazakhstan Allocates 1.1 Billion Tenge for Caspian Sea Research and Preservation
@TengriNews
The Government of Kazakhstan has directed 1.1 billion tenge from its reserve fund towards a comprehensive program for the study and preservation of the Caspian Sea. The funds have been allocated to the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of the Caspian Sea.
The investment is intended to enhance the institute's scientific capabilities. Specifically, the money will be used to purchase equipment for marine monitoring and to upgrade hydrobiological and hydrochemical laboratories. This modernization will enable the institute to conduct integrated monitoring directly on the sea's surface, including systematic observations of hydrometeorological and biological environmental parameters.
According to an official statement, this initiative will expand the scientifically grounded knowledge base regarding processes occurring in Kazakhstan's sector of the Caspian Sea.
The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources has been tasked with implementing all necessary measures to execute this government resolution. Concurrently, the Ministry of Finance will oversee strict control to ensure the targeted use of these budgetary funds.
This move follows President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's remarks late last year, where he identified the fate of the Caspian as one of the most pressing issues requiring immediate action. He emphasized that falling sea levels are already having a serious impact on both the region's ecology and its economy.
