Iran Condemns US Envoy's Remarks on Israeli Expansion as ISIS-Like Ideology

@TehranTimes
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has issued a sharp condemnation of recent comments by U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, who suggested it would be acceptable for Israel to expand its territory from the Nile River to the Euphrates. Iranian officials described the statement as clear evidence of American complicity in Israeli expansionism and the ongoing conflict in Palestine.
In a post on social media platform X, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stated that Huckabee's assertion represents "American active complicity in the Israeli regime's expansionist wars of aggression as well as its colonial genocide of Palestinians." The remarks were made during an interview with commentator Tucker Carlson, where Huckabee referenced biblical promises regarding land for Abraham's descendants.
When questioned about territories spanning from the Euphrates in Iraq to the Nile in Egypt, Huckabee responded, "It would be fine if they took it all." The ambassador was appointed by former President Donald Trump last year.
Iran, alongside the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has denounced what it calls "extremist ideological rhetoric" that could encourage further Israeli actions against Palestinians and annexation of West Bank territories. Baqaei emphasized that such statements only embolden continued aggression against Palestinians and neighboring nations.
The criticism comes amid ongoing military operations in Gaza, which international legal institutions have described as involving potential war crimes and crimes against humanity. Simultaneously, Israel has been expanding settlements in the West Bank while increasing military pressure on residents.
Beyond Palestinian territories, Israel has extended its presence into Syrian lands following political changes in that country. Military installations have been established in strategic locations including Mount Hermon and surrounding areas within formerly Syrian territory. Israeli military units have reportedly advanced into parts of Quneitra governorate, bringing them within 25 kilometers of Damascus.
Israel has also repeatedly violated ceasefire agreements with Lebanon since November 2024, resulting in over 330 Lebanese casualties according to health ministry reports. Following the 2024 conflict with Lebanon, Israel established military outposts at five locations inside Lebanese territory.
Analysts note that U.S. Support for Israeli territorial claims isn't new—during his first term, President Trump formally recognized Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights and relocated the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Legal experts point out that Huckabee's comments contradict fundamental principles of international law established after World War II, particularly regarding territorial integrity and the prohibition against acquiring land by force. In 2024, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal and must end immediately.
Some observers have drawn parallels between Huckabee's expansionist vision and extremist ideologies like that of ISIS, which similarly sought to establish a caliphate across multiple nations. The ambassador's views echo statements from some Israeli politicians—Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently described himself as being on a "historic and spiritual mission" related to "Greater Israel," while Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich previously presented maps incorporating Palestinian territories and parts of neighboring countries into Israel.
During his interview, Huckabee also criticized international legal bodies including the International Criminal Court (ICC) and International Court of Justice (ICJ), claiming they've become "rogue organizations" that don't apply law equally—a position he said aligns with efforts by Trump administration officials to dismantle these institutions.
