Poland Activates Air Defenses and Scrambles Jets Amid Russian Strikes on Ukraine

In response to a large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine, the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command has activated its air defense systems and scrambled fighter jets. The military stated that "operations by Polish and allied aviation have commenced in the airspace."

This is a standard defensive procedure Poland has implemented during previous instances of Russian strikes targeting Ukrainian territory. According to the command's statement, alert fighter aircraft and an Airborne Early Warning and Control (AWACS) plane have been launched.

Simultaneously, ground-based air defense systems and radar reconnaissance assets have been placed on their highest state of readiness. The military emphasized that these are precautionary measures aimed at ensuring the security of Polish airspace, particularly in regions bordering areas of potential threat.

The heightened alert follows a significant incident from the night of September 9-10, 2025, when up to 23 Russian drones violated Poland's airspace. That event prompted urgent debates in the European Parliament regarding the deliberate breach of a NATO member's sovereignty.
