The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has formally acknowledged Uzbekistan for submitting its updated national climate action plan. The country's National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change received a letter of appreciation from UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Stiell for presenting its third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
This document, referred to as NDC 3.0, was developed and officially submitted by Uzbekistan under the Paris Agreement during the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) held in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025.
The updated contribution outlines the country's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per unit of Gross Domestic Product by 50 percent by 2035 compared to 2010 levels. This target is set considering national circumstances and capabilities.
In his letter, Executive Secretary Stiell noted that the revised NDC reflects an increase in Uzbekistan's climate ambitions. He highlighted its comprehensive coverage of various economic sectors, its orientation toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2055, and its consideration of global stocktake outcomes.
The correspondence also pointed out that decisions made at COP30 in Belém strengthen international efforts to reduce emissions and adapt to climate change. Stiell confirmed the readiness of the UNFCCC Secretariat to continue providing comprehensive support to Uzbekistan in achieving its stated goals.
In response, Uzbekistan's National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change reaffirmed its intention to maintain active cooperation with international partners. This collaboration aims to implement climate policies focused on sustainable development, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and enhancing the nation's resilience to climate impacts.
