Law enforcement agencies in Kazakhstan have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking, uncovering a disturbing pattern of criminal activity involving close family members. In a series of recent operations, authorities disrupted multiple 'family schemes' and seized approximately one ton of illicit substances.

A significant operation in Almaty led to the interception of a vehicle where two brothers were transporting about one kilogram of the synthetic drug alpha-PVP. The elder brother, who had a prior criminal record, was found to have recruited his younger sibling into the illegal trade. During the arrest, police also confiscated a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition.

In the Almaty region, officers dismantled an indoor cannabis cultivation lab run by two brothers born in 1996 and 1998. The pair had set up the operation in a rented house with the intent to sell the drugs. Investigators seized 102 pots containing marijuana plants with a total weight of 61 kilograms, along with specialized equipment including LED grow lights and ventilation systems.

In another case in Almaty, a man exploited his sister's trust by using her apartment to package narcotics for distribution as a 'drug courier.' Upon his detention, police found over 100 zip-lock bags and roughly 500 grams of mephedrone at the location.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that within just ten days in April, nearly one ton of narcotics was removed from illegal circulation. Of this total, more than 800 kilograms consisted of synthetic drugs.

All suspects involved in these cases have been placed in temporary detention facilities. Pre-trial investigations are underway under Part 3 of Article 297 of Kazakhstan's Criminal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 12 years imprisonment with confiscation of property.

A senior official from the ministry's anti-drug committee stated that combating drug-related crime remains a top priority and that any attempts to establish production or distribution networks will be met with severe and uncompromising measures.
