Over the past seven years, Kazakhstan has carried out a massive modernization of its road infrastructure. During this period, more than 25,000 kilometers of national and local roads have been constructed, reconstructed, or repaired across the country.

The total length of public roads in Kazakhstan is about 96,000 kilometers. Of these, approximately 25,000 km are national roads and over 71,000 km are local roads. The implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects has created new transport corridors, improved regional connectivity, and significantly enhanced the quality of the road network.

The share of local roads in good condition has risen sharply from 68% in 2019 to 91% today. For national roads, this indicator increased from 85% to 94%.

Key projects include the reconstruction of the "Karaganda – Almaty" highway connecting the major cities of Astana and Almaty. The work involved widening sections, modernizing bridges and overpasses, and building new interchanges.

Other major reconstructed routes include "Taldykorgan – Ust-Kamenogorsk," "Kalbatau – Maikapshagai" (enhancing transit potential towards China), "Kostanay – Denisovka," "Aktobe – Kandyagash – Atyrau," "Astana – Pavlodar," "Aktau – Zhetibay," "Merke – Burylbaytal," and "Atyrau – Astrakhan." These roads play a vital role in developing interregional communication and strengthening economic ties within the country.

A separate significant project was the modernization of the "Usharal – Dostyk" road, improving traffic safety and transport links to a logistics hub on the Kazakh-Chinese border. Reconstruction also took place on the historically criticized "Kyzylorda – Zhezkazgan" road in Kyzylorda region.

The completion of the "Uzynagash – Otar" project established four-lane traffic on a key section of the transport corridor between Almaty and Shymkent.

Major new structures have been commissioned, including Kazakhstan's largest bridge across the Bukhtarma reservoir and a road tunnel at the Shakpak-Baba pass.

One of the largest infrastructure projects in recent years is the Big Almaty Ring Road (BAKAD), opened in 2023. Most sections have six lanes. The project includes seven interchanges and dozens of bridges and overpasses. Implemented as a public-private partnership, BAKAD is one of Central Asia's largest infrastructure projects and has diverted transit traffic away from Almaty's city streets.

Furthermore, a large-scale program for medium repairs covering about 10,000 km of national roads is underway on key routes like "Zhezkazgan – Petropavlovsk," "Karaganda – Karkaraly," "Kostanay – Mamlyutka," and "Ust-Kamenogorsk – Semey." This year alone aims to cover about 5,000 km with repairs.

These efforts have formed strategic transport corridors ensuring fast and safe connections between regions and integrating Kazakhstan into international routes. Eight international road corridors with a total length of about 13,000 km now pass through Kazakh territory.

Special attention is paid to developing local road networks. Projects include roads like "Karaganda - Ushtobe - Kurlys," an access road to Kyzylorda airport, and access to Amanegeldi village.

The construction already yields tangible economic benefits: reduced business transport costs, faster cargo delivery, growth in interregional trade and SMEs, and increased investment appeal for regions. The modern highway network forms an economic backbone for Kazakhstan by ensuring population mobility domestic market developmentand strengtheningthe country's transit potential.Work on modernizingroad infrastructure continues
