Uzbek and Azerbaijani Leaders Discuss Middle East Escalation and Evacuation

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on March 5.

At the beginning of the talks, the Uzbek leader strongly condemned recent drone attacks on Azerbaijani territory and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

The conversation highlighted that the sharp escalation of tensions in the Middle East observed in recent days has led to numerous civilian casualties and is a cause for serious concern.

It was noted that such events, occurring during the holy month of Ramadan, contradict universal human values, international norms, and the principles of territorial integrity of states.

President Mirziyoyev also expressed gratitude to Ilham Aliyev for the measures taken and conditions created to ensure the safe evacuation of Uzbek citizens from Iran through Azerbaijani territory.

In turn, President Aliyev thanked Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the friendly conversation and support during this difficult time.
