Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh has stated that the Islamic Republic is against any alteration of the geopolitical landscape in the Caucasus. He emphasized that security in the region must be established by the countries located within it.

"Regional security should be ensured through interaction and cooperation among regional nations. Tehran is sensitive to interference from countries outside the region," Nasirzadeh declared during a meeting with Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan in Tehran on Tuesday.

The Iranian defense chief reaffirmed Tehran's commitment to the territorial integrity of states and its opposition to foreign intervention, noting that certain external meddling is driven by ill intentions and could undermine regional stability.

Nasirzadeh characterized Iran-Armenia relations as profound and robust, citing historical, civilizational, and societal bonds between the two peoples. He expressed gratitude to Armenia for condemning a joint military action by Israel and the United States against Iran in June 2025.

He further stated that defense collaboration between Tehran and Yerevan aligns with efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance regional security.

Addressing broader security concerns, Nasirzadeh indirectly referenced potential U.S. Military action over Iran's nuclear program. "The Islamic Republic of Iran is not seeking war, but if a war is imposed, it will defend itself with strong force and deliver an unforgettable lesson to its enemies," he asserted.

In response, Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan underscored the historical neighborly relations between the two countries. He highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in various fields, particularly defense.

Papikyan commended Iran's role in supporting security and stability in the region, especially along their shared border. "Armenia will never be a source of danger to its historical neighbor, Iran, and believes that Iran's stability guarantees stability in the region," he said.

During his official visit to Tehran, Papikyan also held discussions with Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi. The officials reportedly addressed matters related to bilateral defense cooperation and regional security issues.
