Numerous citizens and business owners in Kazakhstan have taken to social media to report the sudden blocking of their bank accounts. The issue appears to be widespread, affecting customers of various banks, with many claiming they have no outstanding tax debts.

Posts on platforms like Threads describe a wave of account seizures that began today. Users are sharing screenshots and expressing confusion, as the blockades seem to have occurred without clear prior notification or apparent justification. One common message circulating online states: "Mass arrests of accounts without grounds today. We await a comment from the State Revenue Committee."

The situation has caused significant personal inconvenience. One individual recounted being left completely without funds: "All my personal accounts were simply blocked in one moment. They say it's a technical error. Wait for automatic unblocking. No one knows how long to wait. To leave a parking lot, I literally had to walk around and ask people for money."

Comment sections are filled with reports of similar experiences, with many blaming a system error and complaining about being unable to reach bank call centers for clarification.

While the exact cause remains unclear, some context is provided by recent tax enforcement measures. Authorities have previously warned that accounts could be blocked for so-called "incorrect mobile transfers." According to the rules, if an individual meets certain criteria, receives a notification from the tax office, but fails to appear within a month, their accounts may be blocked on the 41st day.

This enforcement drive is set against a backdrop of increased financial monitoring. By April 15th, second-tier banks are required to send data on citizens' mobile transfers for the first quarter of 2026 to the tax authorities. The State Revenue Committee has outlined how this control mechanism will work and who will be subject to checks.

The State Revenue Committee has been approached for an official comment regarding today's events. A preliminary response indicated they are awaiting information from the relevant department.
