Russia launches massive drone and missile attack across Ukraine

Ukrainian cities came under a massive aerial assault overnight as Russia launched hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles in what appears to be one of the largest attacks in recent weeks. The strikes, which began overnight from Monday to Tuesday and continued into the day, resulted in casualties across multiple regions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the scale of the attack, stating that while most of the drones were intercepted—with over 500 confirmed shootdowns—strikes still hit targets in at least nine oblasts. "The geography of this attack is vast," Zelenskyy wrote. "Unfortunately, people were killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. More than 40 people have been injured so far, including five children. Everyone is receiving the necessary assistance."

The affected regions include Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk. According to the Ukrainian leader, Russian strikes are primarily targeting energy infrastructure.

Military analysts suggest that this intensification of Russian attacks, including ground operations, could mark the beginning of a spring-summer offensive campaign by Moscow.

In a related development, reports indicate Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory. Sources state that drones were shot down over several Russian regions, including Leningrad, Bryansk, Kursk, Belgorod, Smolensk, Kaluga, and Voronezh. One report claims that 13 people were injured as a result of two strikes by Ukrainian forces on an agricultural enterprise in the Kursk region.

Separately, following a report from the Ukrainian negotiation team, President Zelenskyy stated there is no real progress in peace talks. He had previously warned citizens about an impending massive strike from Russia.
