Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who is currently detained in a United States prison, has sent an unusual message to his compatriots on the occasion of International Women's Day, March 8.
The politician's son, Nicolas Maduro Guerra, published his father's message on social media. In it, Maduro called on his fellow citizens to maintain faith that helps "move mountains" and promised that the country would overcome its difficulties.
"Jesus taught us: if you have faith and do not doubt, even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' it will happen. Give us this sincere and universal faith to move the mountains of difficulties that sometimes hold us back and turn them into a free path for our homeland," Guerra quoted his father as saying.
The elder Maduro also left his characteristic autograph. The message from prison is one of Maduro's first addresses to the nation following his arrest in the US.
On January 3, the United States conducted a special operation to capture the leader of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. His wife, Cilia Flores, was also taken out of the country.
On January 5, they appeared before a federal court in New York on charges related to drug trafficking. Maduro and his wife pleaded not guilty. Currently, Delcy Rodriguez, who previously served as vice president of the republic, is serving as authorized president at the head of Venezuela.
