Lebanese authorities have reported Israeli military strikes targeting several towns in southern Lebanon, despite a recently announced ten-day ceasefire agreement. The attacks resulted in casualties, including the death of a teenager.
According to reports, Israeli reconnaissance drones were observed flying over the western slopes of Mount Hermon and the southern part of the Rashaya district from early morning on April 17. Following the declared ceasefire, artillery shelling targeted the town of Khiyam, with reports indicating five shells struck the area.
Shortly before the truce was set to take effect, the town of Deir Mimas also came under fire. One shell reportedly hit a residential building, causing a fire. In another incident in Qunine, an ambulance brigade was struck by shelling, leaving several people wounded.
A separate tragic incident occurred in Majdal Selm, where a teenager was killed and another person was injured by an explosion from an unexploded ordnance.
The reported attacks come after U.S. President Donald Trump stated that leaders from Israel and Lebanon had agreed to a ten-day cessation of hostilities. The ceasefire was scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM Eastern Time on April 16 (3:00 AM on April 17 Astana time).
