In 2026, designated as the Year of Artificial Intelligence and Digitalization, Kazakhstan is taking a strategic step to integrate AI into its national scientific infrastructure. The move was highlighted at the strategic session "Foresight of Science and Technology in Kazakhstan: From Data to Decisions" in Almaty.

Vice Minister of Digital Development and Artificial Intelligence, Dmitry Mun, outlined the ministry's role in advancing national science through predictive analytics. The event brought together over 400 participants, including scientists, government officials, industry representatives, and academics. Discussions focused on developing a national foresight research system and establishing a unified predictive framework for the country and its regions.

A key outcome was the launch of the Kazakhstan-Korea AI SilkNet Center. This joint initiative between Kazakhstan's National Academy of Sciences and South Korea's Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) was inaugurated with the participation of KISTI President Dr. Sik Lee. AI SilkNet is set to become Kazakhstan's first national platform for predictive analytics and scientific-technological foresight.

The platform will provide tools for analyzing global trends, assessing technological risks, and conducting patent and publication analytics. According to Vice Minister Mun, it opens new horizons for national science by enabling the analysis of vast amounts of scientific data and the creation of predictive scenarios for industry development.

"Foresight in science and technology is a tool for strategic management," Mun stated. "The national AI platform allows us to identify global technological trends and create specialized AI agents for scientific tasks." He emphasized that this initiative strengthens the country's intellectual sovereignty and marks a new chapter in Kazakh science.

The collaboration with KISTI, a leading South Korean institute specializing in scientific information and forecasting using AI, is expected to facilitate the transfer of advanced international practices to Kazakhstan's scientific system.
