In a strategic move to integrate artificial intelligence into its scientific infrastructure, Kazakhstan has inaugurated the Kazakh-Korean AI SilkNet Center. The launch took place during the strategic session "Foresight of Science and Technology of Kazakhstan: From Data to Solutions" in Almaty, attended by over 400 participants including scientists, ministry representatives, industry leaders, and academics.
The center is a joint initiative of Kazakhstan's National Academy of Sciences and the Korean Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI). It is set to become the country's first national platform for predictive analytics and scientific-technological foresight. The platform will provide tools for analyzing global and national trends and assessing technological risks.
Vice Minister of Digital Development and Artificial Intelligence Dmitry Mun emphasized the platform's role as a tool for strategic management. "The national AI platform allows us to analyze large volumes of scientific information, identify global technological trends, conduct patent and publication analytics, form predictive scenarios for industry development, and create specialized AI agents for scientific and expert tasks," Mun stated.
The AI SilkNet platform will enable the Academy to develop its own AI agents, accelerate the preparation of strategic reports, and establish a system for monitoring global technological changes. Mun highlighted that this step strengthens national science through AI infrastructure, moving towards forming the country's intellectual sovereignty.
KISTI is South Korea's leading institute in scientific-technical information and forecasting, specializing in implementing AI and high-performance computing in R&D. The creation of the AI SilkNet Center opens new opportunities for transferring advanced international practices into Kazakhstan's science system and strengthening strategic partnership with Korea in AI and innovation.
