Kazakhstan Ranks Second in Sunflower Oil Exports to China in 2025

Kazakh producers have significantly increased shipments of oil and fat products to China. According to the results of 2025, Kazakhstan secured second place in sunflower oil supplies to the Chinese market, capturing a 36% share.

The total export of Kazakh oil and fat products to China last year grew by 44%, reaching 440 thousand tons. The revenue from these exports increased by 37% to $312 million.

The growth in exports was facilitated by improvements in logistics efficiency. A pilot project for transshipping vegetable oil through the Dostyk-Alashankou border crossing was launched at the beginning of 2024. Since its implementation, the fulfillment of shipment plans towards China has exceeded 90%, a significant increase from a rate that did not surpass 40% back in 2023.

In March of this year, a pilot scheme was initiated for coordinating export plans for granulated sunflower meal to China using grain carriers. This new mechanism is based on the already proven system established for shipping vegetable oil.
