Kazakhstan Makes Historic Choice for New Constitution, President Tokayev Says

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has reviewed the results of an exit poll conducted during the nationwide referendum, calling the day a truly historic event for the country.
"The citizens of Kazakhstan took part in the referendum and supported the constitutional reform. They cast their vote for the future of our Homeland. The results of exit polls have just been published, and we can say with confidence that Kazakhstan has made its historic choice in favor of a new Constitution," Tokayev stated during a meeting with youth at the 'Qazmedia ortalygy' studio.
He emphasized that through this vote, the people have predetermined the further course of history and the fate of Kazakhstan. "Your will shall forever remain in world chronicles because it has become a true symbol of patriotism inherent to our compatriots," he added.

The President announced that from now on, March 15 will be celebrated annually as one of Kazakhstan's main holidays – Constitution Day. "Our compatriots voted for the renewal and modernization of the country. This is our common achievement. I sincerely congratulate all of you on this landmark event!" he concluded.
The referendum on constitutional amendments was held across Kazakhstan on March 15. Polling stations were open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM local time.
The voter list included over 12.46 million citizens aged 18 and older. A total of 10,388 polling stations operated within the country, with an additional 71 stations at Kazakh diplomatic missions in 54 foreign countries. Voting began earlier, at 6:00 AM, at 92 stations, primarily located in military units.

Voter turnout figures were reported throughout the day. By 10:00 AM, over 2.39 million people had voted (19.21% turnout). This number rose to approximately 4.68 million (37.54%) by noon.
The referendum was declared valid by 2:00 PM when participation exceeded half of all registered voters; turnout at that time stood at nearly 6.47 million people (51.93%).

By 4:00 PM, over 8 million citizens had cast their ballots, and by 6:00 PM, more than 70%—over 8.84 million voters—had participated.
The final preliminary turnout figure reported after polls closed at 8:00 PM was approximately 9.13 million people, representing 73.24% of registered voters.
The Central Referendum Commission is expected to announce official results no later than March 21, 2026.
