Kazakhstan recorded a dramatic increase in gasoline exports during 2025, reaching 214.8 thousand tons valued at $139.4 million. This volume represents a staggering 5.7-fold rise compared to the previous year.
The primary destinations for Kazakh gasoline were neighboring Central Asian nations. Uzbekistan was the largest buyer, importing 119.6 thousand tons—an increase of 5.5 times over 2024. Kyrgyzstan purchased 57.5 thousand tons, marking a resumption of supplies after receiving none in 2024. Exports to Afghanistan skyrocketed by a factor of 43.4 to reach 21.5 thousand tons, while shipments to Tajikistan grew more than fourteenfold to 16.1 thousand tons.
In contrast to the booming gasoline trade, exports of diesel fuel remained stable at approximately 60.3 thousand tons, mirroring the level seen in 2024.
The import picture for petroleum products showed an inverse trend. Kazakhstan's imports of diesel fuel surged by a factor of 5.4, totaling nearly 377 thousand tons, with Russia serving as the almost exclusive supplier for this commodity.
Simultaneously, the country drastically reduced its purchases of foreign gasoline by a factor of over fifteen, bringing imports down to just 1.3 thousand tons in 2025 from significantly higher levels a year earlier.
On the domestic front, consumers faced notable price increases at the pump by January 2026 compared to earlier periods.
