Kazakhstan Deepens OECD Ties, Highlights Tax Reform and Strategic Partnership

Vice Minister of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Birzhanov, delivered a speech at the opening session of the OECD Eurasia Week.

In his address, Birzhanov emphasized the strategic importance of Kazakhstan's partnership with the OECD. He highlighted the crucial role of the Eurasia Competitiveness Programme in advancing economic and institutional reforms across the region.

The Vice Minister noted that the OECD Country Programme for Kazakhstan facilitates the integration of international standards and best practices into national reform agendas. This approach ensures reforms are practical and designed for long-term sustainability.

Birzhanov also detailed Kazakhstan's active and consistent engagement with the organization. The country has now acceded to 46 OECD legal instruments and participates in the work of 39 of its committees and subsidiary bodies.

A specific focus was placed on tax policy developments. Key points included the upcoming enactment of a new Tax Code for Kazakhstan, scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026, and the country's participation in the Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) initiative.
