During high-level ministerial meetings in Baku, Kazakhstan has reaffirmed its strategic commitment to developing the Southern Gas Corridor and implementing a major trilateral green energy project with Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

The 12th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 4th Ministerial Meeting on Green Energy were held in the Azerbaijani capital. The events were attended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Policy Dan Jørgensen, as well as representatives from energy ministries of over 27 countries and 49 international companies.

Kazakhstan was represented by Vice-Minister of Energy Sanzhar Zharkeshov. In his address, he emphasized the strategic nature of energy relations between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. Discussions focused on the further potential of the Southern Gas Corridor, demand from off-takers, utilization of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, and other prospects.

"Kazakhstan highly values its strategic partnership with Azerbaijan in the energy sector, where we see significant potential for developing new areas of cooperation," stated Zharkeshov. "I would particularly like to highlight our agreements on a large-scale project for producing and transmitting 'green' energy between Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan. The agreement signed by our heads of state contributes to achieving our environmental goals for reducing emissions by attracting green investments."

The official noted that this trilateral green energy initiative has already been institutionally formalized: a joint venture has been established, and ratification procedures have commenced.
