During an official visit to the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yermek Kosherbayev, held talks with his British counterpart, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper. The meeting focused on strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership established between the two nations.
The ministers reviewed the current state and future potential of Kazakh-British relations. A central topic was the expansion of cooperation across several key areas, including trade and investment, critical minerals, transport and logistics, finance, digitalization, education, and climate policy.
Kosherbayev highlighted the significance of the Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement signed in 2024. He noted that its ratification would unlock new opportunities for deeper collaboration. "The United Kingdom remains one of Kazakhstan's key partners in Europe," stated the Kazakh Foreign Minister. "We are committed to further deepening our strategic partnership."
Special attention was paid to cooperation in critical minerals. The parties emphasized that a newly signed Roadmap for 2026-2027 gives their collaboration a practical focus. This framework is expected to facilitate joint projects in geological exploration, mineral processing, and the adoption of modern technologies.
The discussions also covered the development prospects of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). Both sides recognized its role as a vital corridor for enhancing Eurasian connectivity and ensuring the resilience of global supply chains.
In education and science, mutual interest was confirmed in expanding academic ties. The recent establishment of branches from leading UK universities—De Montfort University, Heriot-Watt University, Coventry University, and Cardiff University—in Kazakhstan marks a shift towards a deeper institutional model of cooperation.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to fortifying the strategic partnership as they mark 34 years of diplomatic relations.
