Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan inspect border crossings to double rail freight

@МТ РК
A joint delegation from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan has conducted an inspection tour of key border railway junctions. The working trip is part of a bilateral agreement between the two nations' transport ministries to significantly boost cargo volumes.
The delegation included heads of the railway administrations, representatives from the Border Service, the State Revenue Committee, as well as specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture responsible for phytosanitary and veterinary control.
The group carried out a detailed examination of the strategic Saryagash and Syrdarya crossing points. These facilities are set to become pivotal hubs for expanding capacity, which is essential for doubling freight traffic between the two countries.
During the visit, officials discussed infrastructure development issues, focusing on eliminating bottlenecks that currently limit rail throughput and efficiency.
The parties confirmed plans to systematically increase capacity at interstate junctions. The goal is to raise throughput at the Saryagash crossing from 36 to 40 train pairs per day. At the Oazis junction, a fivefold increase to 10 train pairs per day is planned. Special attention was given to developing the Syrdarya crossing. Once the strategic Darbaza – Maktaral section becomes operational, its capacity will also be increased to 10 train pairs daily. This infrastructure upgrade will provide the necessary technical foundation for achieving a target annual freight turnover of 60 million tons.
