Kazakh and US Energy Ministers Discuss Security, Investment at CERAWeek

@МЭ РК
Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, held bilateral talks with his US counterpart, Christopher Wright, on the sidelines of the CERAWeek conference in Houston. The discussions centered on ensuring global energy security, developing alternative export routes, and strengthening investment cooperation.
The ministers highlighted the strategic nature of the 32-year partnership between the two nations in the oil and gas sector. Total US investment in Kazakhstan's energy industry has surpassed $60 billion. American corporations ExxonMobil and Chevron are key partners in developing the country's largest infrastructure projects: Tengiz, Karachaganak, and Kashagan.
These fields currently account for approximately 70% of Kazakhstan's total oil production and represent a significant portion of global output for these US majors. Minister Akkenzhenov reaffirmed the state's commitment to creating stable conditions for the long-term development of these assets and increasing their production capacities according to established plans.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to logistics and guarantees for uninterrupted energy supply to world markets. The Kazakh minister emphasized the role of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) as a primary export route, transporting about 2% of global oil supply. The Kazakh side confirmed its focus on pragmatic dialogue with all stakeholders to ensure reliable transit.
The participants positively assessed joint efforts to maintain the pipeline's sanctions-free status, a fundamental condition for preserving balance in the global energy market. Alongside using established routes, Kazakhstan is actively diversifying its export directions.
The development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route utilizing the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) system was discussed. Volumes transported via this corridor are expected to increase to 2.1 million tons per year in the near future. Minister Akkenzhenov expressed readiness to work with American investors to maximize efficient use of the Caspian Sea's transport potential for delivering resources to international markets.
In closing, Akkenzhenov noted that Kazakhstan possesses vast natural resources and is open to deepening technological partnership. Coordinated action and sharing best practices will strengthen economic growth for both countries based on mutual trust and pragmatism.
