Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan Aim to Boost Bilateral Trade to $3 Billion
@МИД РК
The foreign ministers of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have pledged to deepen their strategic alliance, setting an ambitious target to boost bilateral trade by 50%.
Following talks in Bishkek, Kazakhstan's Yermek Kosherbayev and Kyrgyzstan's Jeenbek Kulubaev committed to practical steps for implementing agreements reached by their nations' leaders.
A clear vector for further strengthening fraternal relations has been set following the mutual visits. We intend to make maximum efforts for the comprehensive development of cooperation in the spirit of eternal friendship,stated Kosherbayev.
Economic ties were central to the discussions. With a current trade volume of $2 billion, Kazakhstan is firmly among Kyrgyzstan's top three trading partners. The ministers agreed to work toward increasing that figure to $3 billion.
To achieve this goal, the sides plan to diversify trade, develop interregional links, and launch new joint projects. A key focus is the creation of a cross-border Industrial Trade and Logistics Complex, expected to have a multiplier effect on overall cooperation.
Investment is also growing, with Kazakh companies having invested $1.4 billion into the Kyrgyz economy over the past two decades. The ministers expressed readiness to expand collaboration in energy, transport, logistics, and agriculture.
The officials also reviewed cultural and humanitarian ties, highlighting a busy schedule of events last year. These included Days of Kazakh Cinema in Kyrgyzstan, a youth forum, the unveiling of the "Golden Bridge" monument in Bishkek, and the premiere of the musical "Jamila" in Kazakhstan.
Concluding the meeting, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination on international platforms, including the UN, and agreed to strengthen dialogue within the framework of their bilateral Council of Foreign Ministers.
