Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, held a meeting with senior management of the French energy corporation TotalEnergies. The discussion included TotalEnergies EP's Senior Vice President for Asia-Pacific, Mansur Zhakupov, and the Head of TotalEnergies in Kazakhstan, Frode Yunes.

The central focus of the talks was the progress on key investment initiatives by the company in Kazakhstan. A primary project under review is the construction of the massive "Mirny" (Peaceful) wind farm with a capacity of 1 gigawatt in the Zhambyl region.

This initiative represents a cornerstone of bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and France in decarbonization efforts. The partnership is formalized under a special intergovernmental agreement between the two nations.

A defining feature of the "Mirny" station is its hybrid design. Beyond wind power generation, the complex will be equipped with a substantial energy storage system with a capacity of 300 MW/600 MWh. This battery storage component is crucial for stabilizing power output fed into the national grid. The project also entails building 280 kilometers of high-voltage transmission lines to connect to the "YUKGRES" and "SHU" substations.

Concluding the meeting, Minister Akkenzhenov assured international partners of continued constructive dialogue and comprehensive support from his ministry. This support aims to ensure timely commissioning of the facilities and further strengthen investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and France.

The realization of this project with TotalEnergies is expected to make a significant contribution to Kazakhstan's carbon neutrality goals. It will supply clean energy to the region and establish a foundation for developing new technological expertise within Kazakhstan's renewable energy sector.
