An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) launched from Iran has crashed on the territory of an airport in Azerbaijan. The incident occurred near the airport in the city of Nakhchivan, where the drone reportedly exploded.
The crash triggered a fire within the airport's perimeter. Footage from the scene has begun circulating on social media platforms.
The location of the incident is notable for its proximity to Iran. Nakhchivan is situated approximately 30 kilometers from the Iranian border.
According to reports from Azerbaijani media, an official statement regarding "Iran's attack on Azerbaijan's civilian infrastructure" is expected shortly.
This event follows recent reports that Azerbaijan had relocated military units to its border with Iran and placed a portion of its armed forces on heightened combat readiness.
The drone crash comes amid heightened regional tensions. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently addressed leaders of neighboring countries, stating that Tehran had no choice but to defend itself in the face of attacks from the United States and Israel.
