Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that American threats in the Strait of Hormuz will have severe repercussions for global trade. He issued this statement during a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, as detailed by the Iranian presidential press service.

"Any kind of threat to the security of this region will have extensive consequences for world trade," Pezeshkian was quoted as saying. He added that Iran is prepared for any scenarios arising from the situation in the strategic waterway.

The leaders also discussed recent negotiations with the United States held in Islamabad. Pezeshkian stated that while expert-level talks had led to mutual understanding, "the lack of political will from high-ranking American officials prevented the completion of work on an agreement."

The conversation touched upon Iran's nuclear dossier, with Tehran expressing its readiness to continue discussions on this matter. Following weekend talks between Iranian and US delegations in Pakistan, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei noted that the sides failed to agree on several key topics.

Reports indicate the negotiations covered issues including the Strait of Hormuz, nuclear matters, reparations, sanctions, and conflict resolution. A ten-point plan proposed by Iran was reportedly considered as a potential basis for a future agreement.

This diplomatic exchange follows the recent implementation of a US naval blockade targeting all vessels heading to or from Iranian ports and coastal areas. US President Donald Trump previously threatened that any Iranian ships attempting to breach this blockade would be "immediately destroyed."

Trump also claimed that "the right people" from Iran had contacted him expressing interest in new negotiations with Washington, though he declined to specify whether the United States would agree to such talks.
