Iran Offers to Open Strait of Hormuz for Two Weeks in Exchange for US Ceasefire
@TengriNews
Iran has declared its readiness to guarantee the safe passage of vessels through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz for a two-week period. This offer is conditional on the United States halting all attacks against Iranian targets during that time.
The proposal was announced in an official statement from Iran's Supreme National Security Council, published by Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The document outlines that Iran's armed forces would cease defensive military actions if attacks from the US are stopped.
The initiative follows diplomatic mediation efforts by Pakistan. The statement expressed gratitude to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their work toward de-escalating conflict in the Middle East.
This development comes after US President Donald Trump stated he agreed to a two-week suspension of strikes against Iran following an appeal from the Pakistani leader. Trump characterized the arrangement as a bilateral ceasefire and noted that Washington had received a 10-point proposal from Tehran, which he considered a "workable basis for negotiations."
Prime Minister Sharif had publicly urged the US president to delay action on Iran and simultaneously called on Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz as a goodwill gesture for the same two-week timeframe.
The situation remains tense, as President Trump's announcement followed earlier social media posts containing severe threats toward Iran.
