The Assembly of Experts, Iran's clerical body responsible for appointing the country's Supreme Leader, has reached a consensus on a candidate for the position. The decision was made with a consolidated majority vote.

Mohammad-Mehdi Mirbagheri, a member of the assembly, confirmed the development. He stated that members had worked diligently in recent days to reach this pivotal agreement.

"The members of the Assembly of Experts have made efforts these days to determine the Supreme Leader and have not failed. Fortunately, a decisive and consolidated position has been formed, which reflects the opinion of the majority," Mirbagheri said.

While no official announcement has been made regarding the successor's identity, previous reports indicated that Mojtaba Khamenei, the 56-year-old son of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was considered a leading contender for his father's role.

The internal Iranian process occurs amid heightened regional tensions. In late February, the United States and Israel initiated an operation against Iran with stated goals of preventing Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Washington issued threats against Iran's naval fleet and defense industry.

In response to these actions, Tehran has reportedly targeted Israeli territory and American bases in the Middle East. Media reports suggest missile strikes have impacted both military targets and civilian infrastructure within Iran and across the region.

Previously, former U.S. President Donald Trump commented on leadership change in Iran, stating Washington had several candidates in mind for what he termed a "good leader," though he declined to name any specific individuals.
