Iran-linked Hacktivists Claim Breach of FBI Director's Personal Email

A hacktivist group, which U.S. Authorities associate with Iranian intelligence services, claims to have stolen personal and confidential information from FBI Director Kash Patel. The compromised data reportedly includes emails, documents, and potentially sensitive files.
The group known as Handala Hack Team published a collection of materials, asserting they gained access to Patel's personal email account. The FBI confirmed it is aware of the hacking attempts and stated it has taken steps to mitigate the risks. According to the bureau, the leaked information does not contain details about current agency operations.
Experts suggest this cyberattack could become one of the most significant in the ongoing digital confrontation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, drawing increased scrutiny to Director Patel.
The hackers released photographs showing Patel next to vehicles with Cuban license plates and holding a cigar, along with a fragment of an earlier version of his resume.
The published correspondence dates back to the early 2010s. Several emails contain details of Patel's travels between 2012 and 2019, including receipts for airline tickets, train tickets, and hotel stays.
"While the FBI proudly seized our domains and immediately announced a $10 million bounty for the heads of Handala hackers, we decided to respond to this absurd performance in a way that will be remembered forever," the group wrote on its website on Friday.
The bureau took these actions after Handala claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on the American medical technology company Stryker. Security analysts warn that Iranian-linked entities may combine disruptive cyberattacks on critical infrastructure with online influence operations to sow confusion and chaos during conflicts.
