Kazakh athlete Yerbol Khamitov has achieved a historic victory, becoming a Paralympic champion in the 4.5 km para biathlon pursuit event.

This triumph marks a significant milestone for Kazakhstan's national team and stands as one of the brightest moments in the history of the country's sports.

Khamitov secured the gold medal with a time of 9:39.0. The silver medal went to Ukraine's Taras Rad, a two-time Paralympic champion, who finished in 10:00.5. The bronze was claimed by China's Liu Zixu, also a two-time Paralympic champion, with a result of 10:11.5.

This is Khamitov's second medal at the current Paralympic Games; he previously won bronze in para cross-country skiing.

The gold medal is Kazakhstan's fifth overall at the Winter Paralympics and its second gold ever. Notably, it is the nation's first-ever gold medal in para biathlon.
