Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has issued a strong call for an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Middle East, warning that continued fighting risks spiraling out of control and spreading to other nations. He emphasized that military force offers no solution to the region's conflicts.
Speaking at a briefing in Beijing, Wang Yi laid out core principles for resolving the crisis. He stated that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of all Gulf nations, including Iran, must be respected and are not subject to violation. The diplomat stressed that frequent use of force does not prove greatness and that innocent people should not become victims of war.
"The strong are not always right. The world must not return to the law of the jungle," Wang Yi declared.
He called for non-interference in the internal affairs of regional states, asserting that the peoples of the Middle East are its true masters and must be allowed to resolve their own issues. Wang Yi criticized attempts to provoke "color revolutions" or regime change, stating such efforts would find no support.
Instead, he urged all parties to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible. Disputes should be settled through equal dialogue with a focus on ensuring common security. The Foreign Minister called on major powers to act with justice, follow the right path, and play a more positive role in promoting peace and development in the Middle East.
Wang Yi expressed Beijing's readiness to work jointly with Middle Eastern countries to implement a global security initiative. The goal is to steer the region back toward normalcy for the well-being of its people and global peace.
The call comes amid heightened tensions following reported joint U.S.-Israeli military operations against Iran on February 28th. In response, Tehran has reportedly launched missile and drone attacks against Israeli territory and struck at American bases in Gulf countries. Iran has also blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil and gas shipments.
