Azerbaijan's State Security Service (SSS) has announced the successful disruption of a major terrorist plot orchestrated by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The operation, part of comprehensive counterintelligence measures, was aimed at safeguarding the country's citizens and critical infrastructure.

According to the SSS, the planned attacks targeted strategically vital sites and representatives of religious communities within Azerbaijan. The list of intended targets included the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan oil pipeline, the Israeli embassy in Baku, a leader of the Mountain Jewish community, and an Ashkenazi synagogue.

The security service reported that three explosive devices had been smuggled into Azerbaijani territory. Operational actions by SSS agents prevented these devices from being handed over to other individuals, thereby averting potential casualties and destruction.

As a result of the investigation and subsequent court proceedings, several Azerbaijani citizens have been sentenced. Four individuals were found guilty and received prison terms of six years and six months each. Two other defendants are accused of plotting an assassination attempt on a public figure, while another faces charges for the illegal possession of weapons and explosives; all three remain under arrest pending trial.
