Kyrgyz authorities have seized 37 vehicles smuggling fuel from Kazakhstan in a special operation, the country's traffic police announced.
The detained cars, primarily modified off-road vehicles, were found with illegally installed auxiliary fuel tanks. Police stated the drivers were engaged in smuggling gasoline for subsequent roadside sales.
Each driver was fined 5,500 som, equivalent to approximately 30,000 Kazakh tenge, for violating rules on transporting dangerous goods. All vehicles were impounded.
Owners can only reclaim their transport after dismantling the illegal fuel tanks. This crackdown is aimed at halting the illegal import and sale of fuel.
