Kazakhstan to Connect 200,000 Teachers to ChatGPT Edu for AI Assistants

The Ministry of Education of Kazakhstan is preparing to officially launch a pilot project called ChatGPT Edu. Within the framework of a memorandum, the project aims to reach 200,000 educators by 2026, enabling them to use artificial intelligence tools to reduce routine workloads.
Comprehensive work is underway to integrate AI into the education sector in line with the Head of State's directives. Currently, a modernization of the National Educational Database is being conducted on the QazTech platform. This database will become a unified repository for electronic diaries and will form digital profiles. A National Educational Platform is also being created to consolidate all educational services and government functions, moving away from disparate systems towards a single platform. This shift represents a transition from managing electronic diaries to managing talent through data and artificial intelligence.
The primary goal of the pilot project is to implement ChatGPT into the education system to improve learning quality, enhance teacher effectiveness, and develop research potential. The project also focuses on automating academic processes using AI.
As part of the memorandum, a quota of 100,000 ChatGPT Edu licenses has been allocated for the Ministry of Education's needs. These licenses are distributed across education levels: 5,000 for preschool organizations, 85,000 for secondary schools, and 10,000 for colleges. In the second half of the year, these licenses will be redistributed and provided to an additional 100,000 teachers.
Each teacher will receive their own "smart assistant." ChatGPT Edu will allow educators to prepare lesson plans in minutes, create assignments and tests, adapt learning materials for students at different levels, and develop content in Kazakh, Russian, and English languages.
During lessons, the tool will help teachers explain complex topics in simple terms using real-life examples and transform classes into discussions or collaborative projects. It will also assist in creating assessment criteria and providing preliminary analysis of student work. However, final grading will always remain with the teacher. Furthermore, the platform will support teachers' professional development by helping them study modern teaching methodologies and master new digital practices.
